STD VII – Pongal Celebration

January 13 @ 12:00 am - 12:00 pm

Std 7 students of SBOA School and Junior College celebrated Pongal on 13.1.2026. The festival is a celebration of gratitude to nature—the sun, rain, and farm animals—for a bountiful harvest, and it marks the beginning of the auspicious Tamil month of Thai.

The name “Pongal” translates to “to boil over” or “overflow” in Tamil, which is the central ritual of the celebration. A special dish, also called Pongal (a sweet dish made of newly harvested rice boiled with milk and jaggery), is prepared in a new earthen pot until it deliberately overflows, symbolizing abundance and prosperity.
